01/ Overview
The route
A delightful snowshoe hike through unspoilt nature: after climbing to the summit of the Niremont, you are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view from the Jura over the lakes of Geneva and Neuchâtel to the Savoy alps with the Mont Blanc.
The snowshoe trail begins at Les Pueys in Les Paccots, away from public transport links; the nearest stop, Les Paccots, Les Rosalys, is around 1.5 kilometres away. From the houses, the circuit climbs through open terrain, with occasional stretches through the forest. Over eight kilometres, it gains around 500 metres in elevation.
At Niremont, the route reaches its highest point at just over 1,500 metres. This Fribourg mountain takes centre stage early in the circuit, before a longer descent through pastures and forest leads to Rathvel. The Buvette d’alpage de Rathvel stands directly on the route.
The trail then climbs gently once more before looping back in a wide arc. Open areas and woodland alternate all the way to Les Pueys. After just over four hours, the snowshoe hike ends back at the starting point.
