01/ Overview
The route
Winding through the upper reaches and along the right and left bank of the Hongrin as well as a protected natural area, the path offers a breathtaking view of the Cases valley and the jagged summits of the Cape aux Moines and the Vanil des Artses.
The snowshoe tour begins in the hamlet of Allières, L’Ange; the station Allières, gare is only a few metres away. The circuit measures around 7 km and takes just over three hours. Initially the route runs over open pastures and along the Chapelle des Allières, which lies directly on the path. In a steady ascent the track reaches its highest point at Les Villards at about 1'084 m; a total ascent of roughly 280 m is gained.
The second half crosses varied terrain with wooded sections and, in places, runs away from clearly defined tracks. Towards the end the route passes the mountain inn Croix de Fer, only a few metres away, and returns over the gentle slopes to the village of Allières, L’Ange.
