01/ Overview

The route

At an altitude of 1,080 m and perched on the hills above Lavaux, a UNESCO world heritage site, Mont-Pèlerin is a spectacular vantage point offering a wealth of stunning views all along the trail.

The snowshoe tour begins in Baumaroche on Mont-Pèlerin, some distance from public transport links; the nearest stop, Mont-Pèlerin, funi, is around 400 m away. From the starting point, the seven-kilometre loop initially leads through the forest. Over the first two kilometres or so, it descends gently, reaching its lowest point at around 880 m.

The route then turns uphill. Between open meadows and further stretches of forest, around 240 metres of ascent are covered in total on the return leg. In the final third, the trail passes close to Mont Pèlerin and reaches the tour’s highest point at around 1,050 m. The summit itself lies a little off the route and is topped by the Plein Ciel transmission tower. The circuit then descends through forest and open terrain back to Baumaroche, where it ends after just under three hours.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
