01/ Overview
The route
The cross-country ski trail winds along the Ticino River, between the villages of Bedretto and Villa Bedretto. It does not present any particular challenges. Starting with a gentle descent before heading back in the direction of Nufenen Pass, the trail traverses pleasant hilly landscapes and passes by birch groves.
The roughly three-kilometre trail starts in Bedretto, a little way from public transport; the nearest stop, Bedretto, Paese, is just over 300 m away. From here, the circuit initially leads downhill across meadows. Open terrain characterises the first section, while farther down, patches of woodland draw closer.
After just under half the distance, the trail reaches its lowest point near Villa Bedretto. The houses also mark the turning point in the elevation profile: from here, the route climbs gently again and heads back towards Bedretto. The total ascent amounts to around 60 metres. Shortly before the end, the circuit reaches its highest point at just under 1,400 m. After around 50 minutes, the loop closes in Bedretto; from the finish, too, it is just over 300 m to the Bedretto, Paese stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
