01/ Overview
The route
For once not secluded, but right in the heart of the action: this trail between Prato Leventina and Mascengo meanders among the chalets of these two hamlets. The short, slightly hilly course with multiple loops is ideally suited to those looking to fine-tune their technique.
It is around 200 m from the Prato (Leventina), Biv. Mascengo bus stop to the start of the cross-country ski trail in Prato Leventina. The short circuit heads out into open terrain and climbs gently from the outset. Over just under two kilometres, it gains around 70 metres in elevation; while the ascent remains manageable, it defines the first half of the route. A little over half an hour should be allowed for the entire loop.
After just over 800 m, the trail reaches its highest point at just under 1,100 m, near Cima della Costa. It then descends again across the open terrain. Towards the end, the circuit reaches its lowest point at just over 1,000 m; from there, the short loop returns to the starting point in Prato Leventina.
