01/ Overview
The route
A superb loop in an area that often has very good snow. The piste weaves through the pastured woodland, which is emblematic of Les Breuleux. It is extremely varied, with the perfect alternation between very clear sections and others dotted with pine trees.
From the Les Breuleux, Ă©cole stop, it is only a few steps to the start at Les Vacheries. The roughly eleven-kilometre trail initially crosses open Jura countryside, descending gently along the way. Broad meadows and pastures dominate the landscape, interspersed with sections of woodland.
The route then climbs gently. Just over halfway round, it reaches its highest point near Mont Soleil at around 1,060 m. There are no major climbs, but the constant ups and downs add up to around 160 metres of elevation gain. The trail then leads back across open ground and through short stretches of woodland to Les Vacheries. Just under three hours should be allowed for the full circuit; the finish is again only a few steps from the Les Breuleux, Ă©cole stop.
