01/ Overview
The route
Starting from the Mont-Croisin pass, this route takes you through the wind turbines and solar panels to the top station of the Saint-Imier–Mont Soleil funicular railway which draws its power supply from solar energy generated on the spot.
From the Mont-Crosin, col stop, the cross-country ski trail immediately climbs beyond the Col du Mont Crosin onto the open heights of the Jura. It initially ascends, reaching its highest point at around 1'260 m near Petit Crêt after just under two kilometres. From there, broad meadows and pastures define the landscape, with short undulations providing a constant alternation between climbs and descents.
The trail continues through the landscape around Mont Soleil in a long succession of ascents and descents. Its 1'291 m summit lies slightly off the route, while the trail crosses open terrain at a lower elevation. By the finish, the route totals around 260 metres of ascent and 300 metres of descent, without any single long climb dominating the outing.
In the final third, the Auberge L’Assesseur stands directly beside the trail. From there, further gentle counter-climbs and descents lead to Mont-Soleil. After around twelve kilometres and a good three hours, the trail ends at the station of the funicular to Saint-Imier.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
