01/ Overview
The route
On the Chasseral ridge, high above the lakes, this cross-country skiing track leads through varied scenery that is very typical of the Bernese Jura. It boasts fantastic panoramic views of Lake Neuchâtel, the plateau and the Alps.
The approximately 18-kilometre cross-country trail begins at Les Prés-d'Orvin, away from public transport links. The nearest stop, Les Prés-d'Orvin, Le Grillon, is around 1.7 kilometres away. Near the Métairie de Prêles, the loop initially crosses the open heights of the Jura. Expansive terrain defines the first section before the trail repeatedly enters the forest, continuing with gentle climbs and descents.
In the second half, the Jurahaus and the Métairie de Jobert lie slightly off the route. The trail then continues to climb, reaching its highest point at just under 1,300 m near Mont Sujet after around twelve kilometres. From there, it follows an extended series of climbs and descents through sections of forest and across open Jura terrain. After just under five hours, the loop closes back at the starting point in Les Prés-d'Orvin.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
