01/ Overview

The route

Travel on world-famous railway tracks to a unique sensation on toboggan runners, starting off slowly in the little town of Preda and then followed by a rapid and winding descent under viaducts and along the Alvra and ending up gently in Bergün.

From the Preda, Hotel Kulm/Bahnhof stop, it is only a few steps to the start. At just under 1'800 m, this is also the highest point of the route. The sledging run leaves Preda downhill and reaches the houses of Naz after just under one kilometre.

This is followed by the longest section of the descent: beyond the small settlements, the terrain opens up and the route continues downhill towards Bergün. Predominantly open ground characterises this middle section. Over around six kilometres, the route descends approximately 440 metres; a journey time of just over an hour should be allowed.

In the lower section, the first houses of Bergün draw closer. Towards the end, the sledging run passes close to the Reformed church, which stands at the south-eastern edge of the village towards the Albulapass and is protected at cantonal level. Shortly afterwards, the descent ends in Bergün. The nearest stop, Bergün/Bravuogn, posta, is around 300 m from the actual end of the route.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Sledding is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
