Reiatweg

In the far north of Switzerland, this route snakes its way through the hilly landscape that typifies the region, past green meadows, vineyards and forests. The vista encompasses the Alpine chain and the Hegau landscape in Germany with its characteristic volcanic cones.

It is only a few steps from the Thayngen, Hüttenleben bus stop to the starting point of this approximately 19-kilometre circular hike. The yellow-marked trail leaves Thayngen and crosses open fields to Bibern. Shortly afterwards, the Niederhard-Reiat viewpoint offers sweeping views over the gently rolling landscape. The route continues between stretches of forest and cultivated land, passing the Chuttler barbecue area directly along the way.

Via Hofen and Altdorf, the circuit follows gentle ascents and descents through the Reiat. In Opfertshofen, the trail passes the Reformed church. It then continues uphill between open countryside and forest. Near Bol, the route reaches its highest point at around 700 m.

The return route descends through the forest towards Thayngen. At Cherzenstübli, a fire pit and viewpoint lie directly beside the trail, providing a fitting final rest before the short concluding section. After a little over five hours, the circuit ends back near the bus stop.
