01/ Overview
The route
A scenic winter loop over the gentle Napf spur of Ahornalp, with a border trail, picnic spot and panoramic bench. There are hardly any steep ascents, but plenty of open terrain and a start right by the bus stop.
From the Eriswil, Ahorn bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point on Ahornalp. The mountain restaurant stands right at the start; from here, the winter hike follows a Napf spur eastwards. The loop crosses open terrain to the border trail and continues to Chatzerschwand. The gentle undulations of the landscape involve only short ascents, while the expansive views from Ahornalp remain a defining feature.
After just under two kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at around 1'160 m. Shortly afterwards, the Seppi a de Wiggere picnic spot lies directly on the loop. A panoramic bench beneath a mighty tree provides another peaceful highlight. The route then descends gradually, turns west and follows the ridge back. After around four and a half kilometres and a good hour and a half, the winter hike ends back at the mountain restaurant on Ahornalp, immediately beside the Eriswil, Ahorn bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
