01/ Overview
The route
Fields, stretches of woodland and sweeping views across the hills characterise this winter hike from Gettnau to Ohmstal. The route initially follows the Luthern, climbs into the hills near Salberig and returns past isolated farms.
The almost 13-kilometre winter hike starts directly at Gettnau railway station. The route first leaves the village and follows the Luthern towards Niderwil. Between fields and isolated farms, the terrain remains gentle before the trail climbs via Kleinlörzigen to Ohmstal. Kurhaus Ohmstal offers an opportunity to stop for refreshments; beyond it, open countryside stretches across the hills, with views in every direction. The route involves around 270 metres of ascent in total.
Beyond Ohmstal, the circular route alternates between fields and stretches of woodland. Near Salberig, it reaches its highest point at around 740 m. It then gradually descends again via Gallis and Hünkihof, passing the Bründlen farm before returning to the first houses of Gettnau. After a good three and a half hours, the route ends where it began: at Gettnau railway station.
