01/ Overview
The route
A peaceful winter circuit across the Lindenberg, characterised by open pastures, short stretches of woodland, Schloss Horben and sweeping views of the lake and Alpine peaks.
The winter hike of just under three hours begins at the Hämikon, Berg bus stop, served by bus 106 from Hitzkirch railway station. The Gasthaus Hippotel stands right by the starting point. The route soon crosses the open meadows and pastures of the Hämikerberg, interspersed with short stretches of woodland. Historic Central Swiss farmhouses are a familiar feature along the circuit, while clear weather brings views of the lake and Alpine peaks.
Around halfway, the route reaches the chapel of St. Wendelin. A little further on, Schloss Horben stands on the high plateau. It was built in the early 18th century as a summer residence for the monks of Muri Abbey and is a cultural property of national significance. The privately owned castle can only be viewed from the outside. The trail then climbs in gentle undulations to its highest point near the Lindenberg at around 860 m. It descends across open ground and through woodland to Müswangen before climbing gently once more to the Hämikon, Berg bus stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
