Zugerberg-Weg

The journey from the town of Zug into the open countryside takes just eight minutes. The Zugerberg circuit through the high moorlands offers much more than just a phenomenal view of the town, Lake Zug, and the surrounding mountain landscape.

The winter hike begins at the Zugerberg stop, just a few steps from Restaurant Zugerberg. The roughly nine-kilometre circuit sets off between the houses of Schönfels and Vordergeissboden. The settlements are soon left behind; open meadows and pastures, interspersed with stretches of woodland, define the first section. After just under two kilometres, the Ewegstaffel barbecue site lies directly on the route.

The winter trail then continues over gently undulating terrain to Früebüel. It climbs further across broad open expanses. Around the halfway point, the route reaches its highest point at roughly 1'020 m near Grossmattstollen. Here, the terrain becomes even more open before the return leg leads increasingly through woodland.

At Hafenbach, the circuit passes directly by another barbecue site. Open areas and denser stretches of woodland then alternate as the trail gradually descends. Towards the end, the first houses reappear. After around three hours, the circuit closes at the Zugerberg stop, not far from Restaurant Zugerberg.
