01/ Overview
The route
A short winter hike through the Rigi’s open summit area: a steep descent, sweeping views and a covered fire pit characterise the route from Rigi Staffel to Rigi Kulm.
The winter hike begins at Rigi Staffel, served by the cogwheel railways from Goldau and Vitznau. Right at the start, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,750 m. It then descends steeply across the open slopes of the Rigi massif. The trail takes its name from the Schinenfluh, while expansive views across Central Switzerland remain a constant companion in the summit area.
After the sharp descent, the route becomes gentler and continues with only a few short uphill sections. Along the way, the covered fire pit by the barbecue hut makes a scenic place to stop. If time allows, a detour to the Alpwirtschaft Chäserenholz can also be included, though it is not part of the direct route. The signposted winter hiking trail then passes the Kulmhütte.
After just under two kilometres and around half an hour, the Schinenfluh Trail ends at Rigi Kulm, near the small railway station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
