01/ Overview
The route
The warm-up is brief and the pleasure of the descent is huge. The toboggan run that descends to Jaun features some vertiginous stretches and offers a magnificent view over the Gastlosen, the Bäderhorn, the Hochmatt, the plain leading to the village of Charmey and on to the Jura mountains.
The sledging run begins at Bärghus Gastlosen, just a few steps from the Gastlosen stop. It initially crosses open terrain and, after a short opening section, reaches its highest point at around 1,580 m. The rocky Gratflue rises away from the route. The longer descent then begins, heading towards Jaun with a considerable loss of elevation.
In the middle section, the sledging run enters the forest. It continues downhill through a mixture of clearings and longer wooded sections before the first houses of Jaun appear towards the end. The Cascade de Jaun is located near the village, just over 100 metres from the sledging run, and is not passed directly.
After around six kilometres and a descent of 580 metres, the route ends in Jaun at Fuessmatta. The nearest public transport stop, Jaun, Dorf, is around 500 metres away.
