01/ Overview

The route

From Luthern Bad, this waymarked snowshoe circuit climbs through forests and across open slopes to the panoramic Napf. The return to the valley leads past alpine farms and the Badbrünnli spring.

The roughly nine-kilometre snowshoe circuit begins at the Luthern Bad, Dreilindenplatz PostBus stop. The Maria-Heilbronn pilgrimage church lies close to the route right at the start. Pink signposts and poles lead out of the village; the route then climbs across open slopes and through forest towards Trachselegg. By the time it reaches the Trachselegg mountain inn, almost 300 metres of ascent have already been completed.

The climb then becomes steeper. The route ascends through the forests of the Napf to its highest point at around 1,400 m. The Napf is the highest summit in the Napfbergland and is home to a mountain hotel. The panoramic views mark roughly the halfway point of the tour and the turning point in the elevation profile.

The return route leads via Eyflue and Alp Niederänzi, initially remaining high above the valley. The long descent begins at Badegg. Towards the end, the route passes the Badbrünnli spring, regarded as a place of energy and whose water is considered medicinal, before returning to Luthern Bad. The Gasthaus Hirschen and the PostBus await at Dreilindenplatz.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
