01/ Overview

The route

The classic hike to the Gorda hut which is situated on a gentle, sunny plateau and offers spectacular views of the Adula massif and the entire Valle del Sole. The ascent leads through an enchanted forest and past snow-covered stone huts.

From the Camperio, Ospizio stop, the five-hour winter hike begins at Ristorante Ospizio Camperio. After a few steps, the route passes through Camperio and soon climbs into the forest. The long ascent defines the first half of the 13-kilometre circuit, with around 660 metres of elevation gain in total.

Higher up, the trees give way to open terrain. At roughly the halfway point, the route reaches its highest point at around 1'800 m, near Punta di Larescia. Shortly afterwards, it passes the Oratorio di San Lorenzo before reaching the houses of Monti di Gòrda. The return leg begins here.

The route now descends steadily, re-enters the forest and continues down towards the valley. Near the end, the first houses of Camperio come into view; the route finishes back at the Camperio, Ospizio stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
