01/ Overview
The route
A lovely winter hike in the Alta Leventina from Nante to Alpe Nuova. As the hike is mostly in the forest except for a few clearings, the tour is very sheltered from the wind.
From the Nante bus stop, the winter hike leads through the small village and past the Oratorio di Santa Maria Assunta. The route initially descends gently across open terrain. After just over one kilometre, it reaches its lowest point, followed by a longer ascent. Meadows and pastures dominate the scenery at first, before the forest draws closer.
The circuit steadily gains elevation among the trees. After around four kilometres, it reaches its highest point at about 1,500 m; the Costone rises a little way off the route. The trail then heads downhill again. The forest gradually thins out, with open ground accompanying the return leg, and the first houses of Nante coming into view towards the end. After around six kilometres and just under two hours, the winter hike finishes back near the Nante bus stop.
