Tschuggen-Alpwanderweg

Alpine hike in the lower Diemtigtal valley with the cultural highlight of visiting the Wakker prize winning village of Diemtigen. Later, fresh alpine air, views of the Simmental valley and subsequent immersion into the forests as you hike downhill.

From Oey-Diemtigen railway station, the hiking trail initially leads through Oey and onwards to Diemtigen. The long ascent begins beyond the houses. The route steadily gains height across meadows and pastures, with open slopes and stretches of woodland alternating later on. Aegelsee lies around 200 metres off the trail and is therefore not reached directly. In total, the ten-kilometre route involves around 720 metres of ascent.

After around six kilometres, the highest point is reached at just under 1,360 m, near Hoflue. The gradient now eases. The broad hiking trail leads through woodland and across meadows before the descent into the Diemtigtal becomes more pronounced. Towards the end, a few houses reappear. At Riedli, Restaurant Riedli comes into view, and shortly afterwards the hike ends at the Riedli, Talstation Wiriehorn bus stop.
