01/ Overview

The route

Between the Aare, Lake Brienz and Burgseeli, this enjoyable circuit links five tasting stops with level waterside paths, Ringgenberg castle ruins and a gentle climb via Goldswil.

The approximately ten-kilometre circuit begins at Youth Hostel Interlaken, near the Interlaken Harderbahn stop. A starter pack and welcome drink are included in the Tüürli, whose five tasting stops showcase regional beers, wines and food. The route follows level, open paths past Baggerseeli to Bönigen, where a culinary lunch is planned.

At Lake Brienz, the trail reaches the lowest point of the circuit and follows the shore towards Ringgenberg. The castle ruins, the municipality’s landmark, and the castle church stand directly beside the route. The trail then climbs through meadows and between houses to Burgseeli. This moorland lake lies close to the hike’s highest point at around 635 metres; swimming is also possible here.

The route descends again via Goldswil. Stretches of woodland, open ground and residential areas alternate before the route reaches the right bank of the Aare. The final section follows the river back to Interlaken and the Youth Hostel.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
