Via Engiadina, Stage 12/12

The last stage of the Via Engiadina leads north from the typical Engadine village of Tschlin to the end of the valley. The Inn River roars far below, and the border with Austria runs alongside it. The wild forests, steep cliffs, challenging stony gullies and spectacular views make this route extremely attractive.

The twelve-kilometre hike begins at the Tschlin, cumün bus stop. The trail passes through the village and by the Reformed Church of San Plasch on its upper edge. The houses are soon left behind. Marked white-red-white, the mountain hiking trail alternates between forest and open meadows, climbing a total of around 380 metres.

After around five kilometres, the route reaches its highest point near Motta d’Alp at just over 1,700 m. From here, the long descent sets the pace. Through forest and across open slopes, the trail loses around 800 metres in elevation before reaching the destination. The route remains a mountain hiking trail throughout and requires sure-footedness despite the moderate gradient. After a little over three and a half hours, the hike ends in Vinadi at just under 1,100 m. The bus stop of the same name is located directly at the destination.
