Via Mundaun 1

Three days from village to village through the peaceful winter landscape of Surselva: The Via Mundaun leads from Obersaxen into Lumnezia on scenic paths over mountain ranges and along sunny slopes. You can discover traditional alms on the first stage towards the Wali mountain restaurant. The view to Piz Mundaun then opens up and accompanies you along the entire route.

From the Obersaxen, Tschappina bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point in Friggahüs. The long ascent begins by the houses of Sankt Martin. The winter hiking trail climbs steadily across open slopes and through sections of woodland. By the time it reaches the Wali inn, a substantial part of the total ascent of around 580 metres has already been completed.

Above Wali, the terrain remains broad and open. Just over halfway along, the route reaches its highest point near Stein at just over 1,800 metres. A little later, the Kartitscha inn lies beside the trail, before the route changes direction and the long descent begins.

Open ground and woodland now alternate once again. The route gradually loses elevation and, towards the end, leads through Misanenga to the houses of Meierhof. Shortly before the finish, the Chapel of St Georg stands directly beside the trail on the small rise of Schneggenbühl. A few steps later, the winter hike of almost five hours ends at the Obersaxen, Meierhof Post bus stop.
