Via Mundaun 2

From village to village in Lumnezia: From Meierhof, the Via Mundaun goes through charming hamlets and past typical Walser houses, circling the eastern face of Piz Mundaun. With stunning views of the surrounding mountains, the trail then descends into the sunny valley and to Vella.

The winter hike, which takes just under five hours, begins at the post office in Obersaxen Meierhof. The route initially leads through the houses of Meierhof towards Affeier and Misanenga, before leaving the settlements and stretches of woodland behind. The trail then climbs steadily across open slopes; over the 14 kilometres, it gains around 500 metres in elevation.

Beyond Cuolm Sura, the winter hiking trail continues up to its highest point at around 1,680 m, near Piz Plauncas. This marks the end of the long ascent, roughly halfway along the route. The trail then descends across broad meadows and pastures to Bündner Rigi, with short counter-climbs adding further variety to the elevation profile along the way.

In the final third, open terrain alternates with woodland. The trail now descends more noticeably and reaches Morissen, with its houses set on the hillside. Passing Restaurant Mulin, the final section leads down to Vella, where the Vella, posta stop is just a few steps away.
