01/ Overview
The route
Through the refreshingly cool gorge on the Urnersee lake - along the lakeshore road to Risleten and a climb through the attractive Risletenschlucht gorge. Crossing of the Stützberg along the historic path to Volligen and arrival in Rütli, with views down to the Urnersee lake.
From the Beckenried, Post bus stop, the route leads through the village and past St. Anna Chapel. It soon reaches the shore of Lake Lucerne, before turning away from the water and beginning to climb.
The white-red-white waymarked mountain path ascends through woodland and across open meadows. After around five kilometres, the hike reaches its highest point at approximately 720 m. The 680 metres of ascent are spread over several climbs, so the route requires stamina despite its moderate elevation. The path then descends again to Schwybogen, alternating between sections of woodland and pasture.
From Schwybogen, the route continues on yellow-waymarked hiking trails. In Volligen, it passes St. Anna Chapel and the restaurant. Towards the end, further open slopes and sections of woodland lead to the Rütli. The destination is reached after 13 kilometres and just over four hours. The Rütli stop is only a few steps from the finishing point.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
