01/ Overview
The route
The hiking trail begins in Versam. The gateway to the Safiental valley is situated above the Rhine Gorge, one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Alpine region. On the way you enjoy a panoramic view. The stage destination is Tenna, an innovative mountain village that boasts the world's first ever solar-powered ski lift.
The hike begins at the Versam, Grosshus bus stop. The mountain trail, marked white-red-white, leaves the village and climbs through wooded slopes. The forest soon gives way to open meadows and pastures. With around 1'250 metres of ascent, the 13-kilometre route requires stamina.
Climbing steadily, the route leads to the Maiensässbeizli Imschlacht, which lies directly beside the trail. The terrain then continues to gain height as the mountain trail crosses open slopes towards the Tenner Kreuz. Near the cross, the hike reaches its highest point at just over 2'000 m. The long ascent is now complete.
The descent alternates once more between pastures and sections of forest before finally reaching the high plateau of Tenna. Shortly before the destination, the Sozialraum Café lies beside the trail. After around five hours, the hike ends at the Tenna, Mitte bus stop.
