01/ Overview

The route

This hike is perfect for fans of winter forest hikes. The view of Fiesch can be enjoyed at every stage of the walk. From the Aletsch Zoo, the two-hour winter hike leads through the alder forest on a slight hill parallel to the Wysswasser glacier creek to Fieschertal.

The start of the trail is just a few steps from the Fiesch, Schule bus stop. The winter hike soon leaves the houses of Fiesch behind and enters the forest. The route climbs gently between the tree trunks and across open ground; over the six kilometres, there are only around 100 metres of elevation to negotiate.

The route continues via Wichel to Fieschertal, where the Hotel-Restaurant Alpenblick stands directly beside the trail. Around halfway, the trail reaches its highest point at approximately 1,110 m. The even profile and the alternation between forest, meadows and small settlements define this peaceful section of the winter hike.

The route then turns back towards Fiesch. With gentle ups and downs, it leads from the more open terrain back among the trees and finally to the first houses. After just under two hours, the circular hike ends back in Fiesch; the Fiesch, Schule bus stop is around 160 m from the endpoint.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
