01/ Overview
The route
Feel like a short, easy hike on a sunny plateau? If so, this circuit is made for you. The path leads from the mountain station of the cable car Bettmeralp towards Ried, through the Baderwald and along the forest promenade back to Bettmeralp.
The starting point of this five-kilometre winter hike is just a few steps from the Bettmeralp public transport stop. Just under two hours should be allowed for the circuit. The route climbs gently between the houses, with the Maria zum Schnee church lying slightly off the trail. Bettmersee, a mountain lake at 2'009 m, is also around 250 m from the route and is not passed directly. Shortly afterwards, the trail passes Schickeria and leaves the village behind.
Wooded sections now alternate with open slopes. The ascent, totalling around 160 metres in elevation, remains manageable, although it continues all the way to the highest point at just under 2'050 m. From there, the route sweeps in a wide arc back towards Bettmeralp. Near the end, the first houses reappear. The trail passes Zentrum St. Michael and Restaurant Alpina; a few minutes later, the circuit closes at the Bettmeralp public transport stop.
