Winterwanderweg Riederalp–Fiescheralp

This is a classic route and very popular for good reason: The views of the 4000-meter peaks of the Valais along the way are without parallel. The path leads from Bettmeralp via Wurzenbord up to Bättmer-Hitta. A walk through the winter wonderland takes you to Fiescheralp.

From the Riederalp West stop, this nine-kilometre winter hike initially leads through Riederalp. Right at the start, the route passes the Riederalp chapel, then loses some elevation and heads east between the houses and across open slopes. Around three and a half hours should be allowed for the route, which involves approximately 460 metres of elevation gain. Bettmeralp is reached after around four kilometres; the St. Michael centre lies directly on the route. Bettmersee is situated slightly off the route above the village.

Beyond Bettmeralp, the houses become fewer and open terrain increasingly dominates the landscape. Gently rising and falling, the route initially continues in the same direction before the longest climb begins. In the final third, it steadily gains elevation and reaches its highest point at around 2,220 m shortly before the destination, near Bettmergrat. From there, it is only a few steps to the first houses of Fiescheralp and the stop of the same name.
